Re-purposing Historic Materials

A particular love I have is what I call ‘Keeping old things alive’; the re-purposing of historic architectural elements and working those into homes. For instance taking a leaded glass transom window and working it into a salvaged mahogany door and installing that into a salvaged gum-wood frame with a transom window. It is the entry into our study. As you will see through the pictures in this section I have reworked old doors into a stairwell enclosure, a salvaged door on a renovation into a pocket door, modifying a salvaged 6 panel door into a three panel door for a pantry, and an old milk box turned into storage in a powder room. I built my own kitchen out of salvaged gumwood, transom windows and cabinet panels. If you have an old element you love I would greatly enjoy helping you work that into an active part of your home.
